Bruntingthorpe

Bruntingthorpe airfield is located near Leicester and is a  working air field which has a collection of cold war jets, including the BAE nimrod,a few Blackburn buccaneers,a scepcat jaguar, some jet provosts and a  Boeing super guppy, the plane that used to fly airliner parts before the beluga was released. What makes this airfield really special is the only taxiing De Havilland Comet in the world!

the first supersonic passenger plane

In the late 1960s a supersonic plane called the Concorde took to the skies. Its Rolls Royce snecma 593 engines boosted it to mach 2.2,breaking the sound barrier.Due to a few horrific crashes and the petrol-thirsty turbojets,Concorde retired on the year 2003.there are many Concordes on display, none actually flying.

the herald of the new passenger plane

On 1935 a 21 passenger plane called the Douglas Dc3 flew passengers to anywhere. It was powered by 2 Pratt and whitney radial piston engines.Built by Donald Wills Douglas. It was used in world war 2 and still flies today. Now there are Dc3s with turboprop engines.

The first powered flight

One day in Kitty hawk,America two brothers Orville and Wilbur wright made the first flight in 1903.They say the plane was made out of flimsy wood and fabric. It was powered by a 12 stroke engine so the pilot had to fly the plane lying down.
